Most of the retailers in Europe took over the control of the logistical channel since the 1970s. (See e.g. Paché, 1998) The retailers decided to send most goods through their regional distribution centres. However, some retailers did not take over the control of the logistic channel: the retailers with extremely large stores, so called superstores. These retailers still let most of their suppliers send their goods directly to the store. This paper describes a study executed at Metro Cash and Carry, a superstore retailer.
